Trail-buddy teacher since 2013

Hey, I'm Ben Hammockin.

Up your hang, one honest field note at a time. That's the whole mission here.

I learned hammock camping the hard way — a cold night in the Smokies with a 45° sag, no under-quilt, and a spine-shaped regret by morning. Since 2013 I've been fixing that mistake for myself and everyone else: testing hammocks, straps, quilts, and tarps in real conditions, from wet spring mountains to high-desert winters.

Top Camping Hammocks is where the field notes live. Every review answers the same three questions:

  • Does it keep you comfortable? Not showroom-comfortable. 2 a.m., third-night-in-a-row comfortable.
  • Is the setup actually simple? If it takes an engineering degree to rig, you'll leave it in the garage.
  • Does it respect the trees? Wide, tree-safe straps and Leave No Trace — always. No exceptions, no excuses.
The Ben Hammockin promise: no fluff, no gatekeeping, no hype. Honest pros and cons, who each hammock is for — and who it isn't for.

Some things you can't put in writing — like how a Tentsile actually behaves when three anchor points meet one enthusiastic dog. The Top Camping Hammocks channel has the original setup and review videos: Hennessy, Klymit, OneTigris, Tentsile, and the 90-second tree-safe webbing wrap I use on every single hang.
